Gonna paint my valve cover and I have a very slight drool of oil at the left front. Can I run a light bead of RTV sealer when I re-install or do I need to replace the $72 gasket assembly? I know a lot of people crack the cover when trying to tighten the problem away, is this torque specified in inch/pounds?
E.

I tightened mine with a hand held nut driver, that is all it needs. I forget the exact spec but it's very low.

I personally never was a fan of RTV on things that shouldn't need it but I've seen it done many times.

The left front might just be the half moon seal that is leaking, they are only a few bucks. The gasket itself may be ok. I would get the entire kit though that way you don't have to worry about it again for many years.

Here is a kit with the 4 spark plug seals, 1/2 moon, and gasket itself for < $50 but I don't think it's true OEM.

Here is OEM for $40 but it's just the main gasket.

I put a small small amount on the half moon ring and an even thinner layer elsewhere.

it shoul fine the rtv should keep every help seal every thing. If rtv used right it helps make gaskets last longer.
