I'm not sure if it's cool to write up a topic about another site, but what do you guys think about the classified's poll on dsmtuners about if only proven members can veiw the classifieds?

Personally I see some great deals on that site and would think it would hinder a newer dsm'er to be able to get some things for his ride that he otherwise wouldn't be able to get. I can see the arguement that it could be unsafe, but if the check doesn't clear then you don't ship the item... Basically I post on here and if I really need info I search for it on other sites. It seems like it would become more of a "snobbery", like, "you don't know enough/I can't trust that you would pay me because you haven't posted enough on our site"...

People just have to be smart about how they sell things. Although I have heard there are some scams going on through paypal now. I'm not sure, but I've heard that people are shipping after they see the payment pending and then when they go back to their paypal account, the payment has been stopped because the sender's payment did not clear. All in all, if you are smart about it, you should be fine. As far as classifieds, I've always thought that anyone could view and buy, but limit selling to people of a certain status. Just my .02

We made that rule for a reason. Too many people ripping people off. Prove yourself to be a proven member and you'll gain access to be able to list things for sale and buy things. Hell we use almost the exact same basic layout for the Indystars forum.

Yeah, I even saw that they lowered the needed posts... I just never posted on there, but now I have too... ugh... It was more of a timing thing, because now is when I started looking for stuff lol

Well these sites are run by ad dollars generated from people accessing the site. If you get more people to interract on the site then you get more people coming to the site for info, this then bring in more money keeping the site running. At the same time all the information being shared on the site is also drawing in people with things to sell. It's a mutually beneficial scenario, but the people who don't have enough posts never see it that way.

I get it and all, it just becomes one of those "but I want it now" sort of things... It is nicer though that people are actually reading the thread before they start posting lots of info that has nothing to do with the topic, or that has already been said. Should have enough posts by the end of the day lol.

Ya, you don't really want people posting crap so they can get to the classifieds and that seems to happen a lot when it is really restricive. What about the people that can't really help but still have a broken DSM? I understand why this change is going on, it just sucks for eveyone else.

The main reason is that it deters alomst all of the ripoff artists and only a few actual sellers and buyers. On a nationwide board that's something you have to take into consideration. Hell the old dsmtrader used to be about a 50/50 shot of getting ripped off at one point because anyone could make an ad and accept cash. Then they could turn around, create a new account, and rip someone else off.

This is true, and I do understand. It just sucks that lazy f-ing people ruin things for everyone.

Did you make it yet? I seen you posting while I was looking for things to post on and get mine up to. Just enough to get it.
