I tried using 80-90 and it was so thick it would grind into gears. I switched to Syncromesh and it shifts great now.

yeah, my last fluid change was 3 bottles of syncromesh II. The tranny shifted well and I was happy with it, I was wondering if maybe 2 bottles of syncromesh II with one bottle of maybe a redline Light duty shockproof. that would seem to me like a good combo for a daily that sees little spouts here and there. If 2 bottles of redline heavy shockproof gear oil and one bottle of syncromesh II is good for drag/road race, then something lighter would be good for a daily that sees some hard driveing, right?

I use 1 quart BG Synchroshift and top it off with Redline Shockproof Light. It works VERY well in my car.

This is the only way I'd ever run any sort of synchroshift in my trans ever again.

The only thing that is going to fix a worn out synchronizer ring is replacement. If your looking for something to get the job done, just run Wal-mart brand 80-90. Something a little better or more expensive is Redline MTL (manual transmission lubricant), you could also try the Redline M90 lubricant too.

Isn't the walmart 80-90 a GL-5 spec fluid and won't GL-5 spec eat the syncros?

Eat synchros? Not following, what cars would you put that in that don't have synchros in their manual transmissions.

The GL5 lubricant can swell the friction material, if the transmission is still equipped with glued friction material. Pretty much all the rebuilt and new transmission are equipped with full brass synchronizes.

That is probably what I am thinking of. I remember after I put some GL-5 spec in my transmission, drained it 200 miles later for my second clutch swap, I had little shiny yellow particles coming out.

It's kinda late in the thread, but I have been using Valvoline VR1 15-50 for a while with good results. In the tranny I just use mobil 1 75-90, but I used to run Amsoil. It was just an issue of trying to find a place that sold it locally at the time.
