Well I just bought an 93 Eagle Talon. The guy i bought it from rebuilt the motor. There was an oil leak so I clean of the bottom with some degreaser and then rinsed it off. Then I started it up since it only leak when it ran. Then I heard some grinding and then seen antifreez. I believe it is the water pump because that is the only on the side with the timing belt (correct?). Anyways I was Just looking for some insite. The water pump was only used for like 2000 miles but it sat for a little while. I could post a video but I don't know how to.

( No disrespect to the person who rebuilt the motor. Just trying to get opinons.)

There's a good chance the water pump took a shit. Especially if you hear a grinding/bearing noise.

Yea but being a race car low miles don't mean much. 2000 miles on the street and 2000 miles on the track are far from the same lol There are factors that can cause a water pump to go bad though also. Such as mixing coolants, or really using dex-cool in general lol I use Toyota coolant because it has the best lubricating and heat transfer properties. Plus when you have a small leak, it crusts up around that spot which makes it easy to find lol

The car really hasn't been raced. I think it sat to long with out being used. Could that be possible?

When it comes to water pumps, OEM is really the only way to go. I've seen too many A/M ones start leaking or blow out bearings in a matter of weeks. For the little more that it is, it's worth just going with the OEM pump. Sitting around for 2 years is never really good on any component of any car. Whether it be pumps, bearings, rubber pieces, anything. Time is the enemy.

BTW, Why are you pulling the motor to do a waterpump?

No don't believe it says that, but I dont' have a chilton's. Just a Haynes and a shop manual. The hardest part is the fact that you have to take the timing belt off becuase it runs in front of the pump. Other than that, the waterpump in car isn't too bad.

Your right I just misread it. I have the haynes to and it really makes it sound simple. Now my next question is I don't exactly what it is called but it the gasket right around the bolts that are by the oil pressure gauge unit. Hope i explain that well enough. Here is a oic of what I am talking about.

Andrew, I know the car, and the builder. No offense to him, but he wasn't a dsm guy anymore than you were. I think the best bet is to replace the pump all together. Just be careful with the gasket and the o-ring.

Are you talking about the oil filter housing gasket?

He did a good job. One it was his first rebuild. It runs good when it's running lol.

That could be it. Should I put RTV on it? I don't think it he did. It seems that with these cars that is used a lot.

There is an actual gasket that goes there. I can't tell from the pic if there is one in there or not, you should be able to see if one is in there. Make sure all the bolts are tight first. That piece really can't be rtv'd because of the multiple ports in it. Both oil and coolant flow through it.
